This is in the weeds.
At the end of Michael Malice’s podcast “Your Welcome” episode 225 with guest James Lindsay there’s talk of the pride flag, equating the flag being “flown” everywhere to a hostile force takeover.
I found this interesting, but ultimately flawed. I’d also like to note that this is the end of an hour long podcast and I feel he’s probably riffing. It’s a few minutes within the last 5 minutes of the episode.
Nevertheless.
The Pride flag is flown in conjunction with other flags, not instead of.
During Pride month National Defence establishments had the modern Pride flag displayed in the lobby. I can’t speak to America, but we didn’t lower the Canadian flag and raise the Pride flag. I have not seen it seen displayed above the National flag ,or any Nations flag.
The National flag is always flown at the highest Point of Honour (or Honor for my American friends).
Mostly it’s done as a courtesy. For example if we have dignitary’s visiting from a foreign military we will have their flag on display. It shall not take precedence over our flag. I’m pretty sure they do this in the Korean DMZ just as a basic respect thing.
Navy has it’s Coxswains and Army/Air it’s RSMs who assure to this.
Now people make mistakes and the world is very big. So there could be a few examples out there. I for one never accidently raised our Nations flag upside down during a flag breaking ceremony. We have a virtually symmetrical flag, especially when rolled up and held together by a cheap elastic band, but I definitely never got that wrong. Not ever.
